A Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) is a system designed to alert pilots if their aircraft is in immediate danger of flying into the ground or an obstacle.
The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) defines GPWS as a type of terrain awareness warning system (TAWS)
EGPWS:
mode 1 :excessive decent rate
mode 2: excessive closure to terrain
mode 3 : Altitute loss after take off
mode 4 : unsafe terrain clearance
mode 5 : excessive glides slope deviation
mode 6: advisory callouts
mode 7 : sever windshear
More advanced systems, introduced in 1996,[2] are known as enhanced ground proximity warning systems (EGPWS), although sometimes called terrain awareness warning systems.
